Hunan Martyrs Park

Hunan Martyrs Park, located in Dongfeng Rd, Kaifu District, covers a total area of 153.3 hectares (including 67.6 hectares of water area). It is the largest park in Hunan integrating commemoration, sightseeing and entertainment.

The 58.7-meter memorial tower rises in the luxuriant cypresses and pines with an inscription written by the late Chairman Mao Zedong. At the base of the tower is the memorial hall, where over 90 martyrs’ portraits and the name list of more than 100,000 martyrs of Hunan.

Located in the east of the Memorial Tower, Nianjia Lake is the main scenic spot of the park. The original water area is 8 hectares and it has been expanded to 46.62 hectares (also known as artificial lake). Tourists can walk in the park, take a boat on the lake, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the park.

The entertainment area, in the southeast of the park, not only has rich recreational facilities, but also provides venues for various flowers, bonsai, calligraphy and painting exhibitions.

In recent years, a Hunan Folk Custom Garden has been built in the northeast corner of the park, covering an area of 5 hectares. The folk customs of 6 ethnic groups including Tujia, Miao, Dong, Yao, Bai and Han can be appreciated here. The beautiful scenery, exquisite buildings and unique ethnic customs bring tourists into a wonderful world.

Tips:

1. Tourists can have a barbecue on the island in the middle of the lake and the Folk Custom Garden; BBQ tools can be rented, but it is suggested to bring your own food.

2.Must-go attractions: Martyrs Tower, Memorial Hall, Nianjia Lake, Mid-lake Island, Red Army Transfer Bridge and Yingfeng Bridge.

3. One to three hours are needed for the tour.

4. Opening hours: 6:00-22:00
