Changsha blossom map: A guide to flower-admiring

With the temperatures rising rapidly, it seems like the flowers across the city are blossoming overnight. What else could beat a trip to admire the flowers in and around the city?

Here, we made a Changsha Blossom Map for you to enjoy the beauty of spring in Changsha.

Cherry 

Location: Hunan Municipal Botanic Garden, Changsha Ecological Garden, Hunan Agriculture University, etc.

Florescent: Mainly from March to April

With more than 70 kinds of cherry blossoms such as Yoshino cherry and Taiwan peony cherry, Hunan Municipal Botanic Garden has probably the most completed cheery collection in Hunan. Cherry blossoms of the botanic garden are mainly located at the cherry blossom lake, the cherry blossom avenue and cherry blossom garden. According to the staff from the garden, the previous rain and low temperature may cause the flowers to blossom half a month later than usual, postponing the florescent to start from late March. In addition, people can enjoy the cherry blossom in other places like Changsha Ecological Garden, Changsha Xiaoyuan Park and Changsha Wangyue Park. 

Plum 

Location: Orange Isle, Shawan Park, Yuelu Mountain, etc.

Florescent: March 

Plum blossoms at places like the Orange Isle, Yuelu Mountain and Shawan Park are now right in the flower season, providing perfect spots for citizens to enjoy the flower.

The Orange Isle has over 600 plum trees from 10 kinds that take up an area of 20,000 square meters. In the plum cherry planting test base of Hunan Horticultural Research Institute, there are tens of thousands of plum trees from over 60 kinds. Other places include the top of Yuelu Mountain and the northern part of Songya Lake National Wetland Park. In Hunan Botanic Garden, plum trees are mainly planted at the cherry lake, cherry avenue, bamboo garden and cherry garden, taking up an area of 20,000 square meters. The total number of plum trees is more than 400, and the trees are from 30 different kinds, covering basically all kinds of ornamental plum blossoms. 

 Peach

Location: Orange Isle, Hunan Municipal Botanic Garden, Yuelu Mountain, etc.

Florescent: Late March to mid-April

There are over 500 peach trees on the Orange Isle, and the flower season is expected to start from middle or late March and end in mid-April. In Hunan Botanic Garden, there are now nearly 500 peach trees from 30 kinds.

Viburnum

Location: Zifeng Park 

Florescent: April to May

Zifeng park is the only park in Changsha that has massively planted the viburnum. The most precious one here is now more than 35 years old, and there are 20 trees over 20 years old. In 2014, the CPC Working Committee of Xinhe Sub-district and the management department of Zifeng Park jointly held the first Viburnum Art Festival. The viburnum usually blossoms during April and May, and the flowers will last for 20 days. According to the staff of Xinhe Sub-district, the art festival this year will introduce a patch of new viburnums. 

Azalea

Location: Dawei Mountain in Liuyang City, Changsha Ecological Garden, Nanjiao Park

Florescent: Mainly from March to April 

In Changsha Ecological Garden there are approximately 30,000 azaleas from over 30 kinds within an area of 300 mu (200,000 square meters). The azaleas are expected to blossom in late March, and the flower season may last to the end of April. 

Dawei Mountain in Liuyang City has the most and best azaleas in Changsha. It has 30 kinds of identified azaleas, many of which can only be found in the mountain. Since the flowers are on the top of the mountain that is 1,200 meters (3,937 feet) above the ground, the florescent is usually from late April to early May, later than azaleas in downtown of Changsha.

Rape Flower

Location: Tianhan Culture Park in Orchard Town, Baixi Village in Chunhua Town, Jiangbei Town, etc.

Florescent: Mainly from mid-March to April

Since spring is a time when skin allergy can be easily triggered, and animals are also very active and sometimes aggressive, experts from Changsha Center for Disease Control and Prevention cautioned the citizens that while enjoy the season, risks of pollen allergy and animal bites and starches should be prevented.
