Hunan province will speed up the construction of charging infrastructure and build 400,000 charging piles and form a charging network featuring unified standards, smart and high efficiency, according to the 14th Five-Year Plan released recently.

In recent years, the sales of new energy vehicles have increased significantly. In March, nearly 226,000 new energy vehicles were sold in China, up 2.39 times. The new energy vehicle industry is becoming more mature, and the proportion of new energy vehicles is increasing, so there is a greater demand for charging facilities.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the province built nearly 28,000 public charging piles, which are distributed in such public places like parks, hotels, and industrial parks. But there are still problems need to be solved such as the lack of private charging piles and difficulty in using public piles due to the rapid growth and huge potential of EV.

The construction of charging network has been included into a key energy project, according to Hunan’s 14th Five-Year Plan.

Recently, the provincial government issued a guideline on accelerating the construction of charging (changing) infrastructure for electric vehicles, which clarifies the forecast target of charging piles in various cities and prefectures of the whole province in 2025.

400,000 charging piles will be built and operated in the province by the end of 2025.

The ratio of public charging piles to electric vehicles in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan cities will reach the advanced level in China. The service radius of public charging facilities in the core areas of the three cities will be less than 1 km, and the interval between charging stations in expressways and national and provincial trunk lines will be less than 50 km.

Residential areas, expressways and national and provincial highways, public parking lots, internal parking lots of units, parking lots for special vehicles, tourist attractions and rural areas are listed as key areas for development.

It is worth noting that the installation conditions of charging piles will be fully reserved for the exclusive parking spaces in new residential areas; property owners are supported to build charging facilities for private use in old residential areas.

At present, the commercial operation of charging piles is accelerating. There are more than 160 enterprises engaged in construction and operation of charging piles. Some enterprises like Casin Teld and State Grid Hunan Electric Vehicle are ready to seize the charging pile markets in Hunan.

The person in charge of Hunan Casin Teld New Energy Co., Ltd. said that the company operates the largest number of charging piles in Hunan, with more than 5,000 charging piles. This year, it plans to invest 100 million yuan to add more than 1,500 high-power fast charging piles.
