Changsha, also known as “Star City”, is one of the first batch of historical and cultural cities announced by the State Council and the first batch of tourist cities opening to the outside world, with Dongting Lake in the north, Hengshan Mountain in the south, and Xiangjiang River running from the south to the north. Besides, it has beautiful scenery with four distinct seasons.

Changsha hasn’t changed its city site for more than 2,500 years. Therefore, various architectural styles in various periods haven’t changed much despite wars and renovations.

In autumn, the maple leaves in the Yuelu Mountain turn red. At the top of Yuelu Mountain, visitors can enjoy the red sunrise and the beautiful scenery of the city. At the foot of the mountain, there is the ancient Yuelu Temple, which has been preserved for more than 1700 years. The temple has numerous monks, and abundant Buddha statues and books, with an endless stream of pilgrims.

In the Yuelu Mountain, there are nearly 100 places of interest, such as Yuelu Academy, Aiwan Pavilion, Huang Xing’s Tomb, Yunlu Palace, Qingfeng Gorge, Baihe Spring, which are amazing and attractive. Yuelu Mountain is not high, but it is a famous mountain with profound cultural heritage, which has become a must-visit tourist destination in Changsha.

The beautiful Orange Isle is located in the center of the Xiangjiang River, with Yuelu Mountain in the west. It is surrounded by water and is the largest ancient island in the Xiangjiang River.

There are Zhoutou Square, Wentian Platform, Wangjiang Pavilion, Fireworks Square, the largest and the most spectacular statue of Mao Zedong in his youth, Hunan celebrity club and a poem gallery on the island.

Orange Isle is named for its abundant citrus. In summer and autumn, the water of Xiangjiang River is gurgling, and the island is full of oranges. In winter, more than 700 plum blossom trees of over 10 varieties growing in the plum garden of about 20,000 square meters will bloom. Moreover, there are also the orange garden, the bamboo garden, the laurel garden and so on, attracting numerous tourists.

Changsha has the former site of the Hunan Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Mawangdui Han Tombs, a “world-class archaeological miracle”, the Tianxin Pavilion, which has stood up after the war, the Hunan Museum, a “national first-class museum”, and the thousand-year ancient Kaifu Temple, and other cultural attractions. There are Jia Yi’s Former Residence, Baisha Ancient Well, the tomb of King Fu of Song Dynasty and so on.
